Why Lazypants, you ask?
This seems to be the re-occurring question.
It’s a simple answer. And I swear to g-o-whatever you may believe in that I have
never held a steady job in my life. I was the epitome of lazy. I would wake up, go shopping, go eat, or distract myself with a million different errands on a daily basis. That was, if I decided to leave my house.
I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life.
I was lost.
Now sure I started Rebus 1.0 a while back and that was a lot of hard work, but I wasn’t ready then. I was like a deer caught in the headlights. This industry is for men among boys it seems, immortals among mortals, giants among regular folk. I learned that the hard way the first time I tried to enter the schmata biz.
Nowadays, I am a bit more prepared. Just a little bit. There is still so much work ahead.
After this ramble you’ve just heard, you may kind of understand why “Lazy Pants.” It’s a
throwback to my younger lazy days, when life was carefree and all I had to do if I wanted was to get out of bed. Now, after working feverishly for the past 12 months, I truly understand what the meaning of hard work is all about. I have taken it upon myself to make you the world’s most comfortable loungepant, a pant that will make you feel like you are sitting among the Greek gods in the clouds above that we all learnt about in school.
Now don’t get what I said twisted. I work hard and I play hard but now I get to sit at
home when the time is right and my body is aching from the hours of hard work I
put into this and feel good. I even catch myself and my friends saying “I cant wait to
get home and put on my Lazy Pants!”
Until next time, please believe me when I say these pants are indeed one of those finer things in you can have in life …
WHY SWEAT WHEN YOU CAN BE LAZY?
“You can put a brand on the map in a single season with the right woman.”
- Peter Lindberg
That “right woman” of the hour for REBUS appears to be emerging Toronto-born model Krista Madison, who we were lucky to shoot with this past December in Part 1 of our current 2012 “Spread Your Wings” brand campaign.
No, we didn’t get the legendary Peter Lindberg to shoot her, but she was indeed shot by another sublimely talented local product, photographer Cory Vanderploeg. With the line moving steadily into its inaugural season, Creative Director Adam Bledin was keenly aware that a distinctive fresh face would be key for the REBUS brand heading into a what we already know are tremendously competitive Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter 2012 seasons, and moved decisively to land a shoot with the ethereally beautiful Krista.
Asked to describe the feeling that Krista elicits in this latest shoot, Adam says “she’s accessible!”
“She’s that quintessential gorgeous girl next door that you would be damn proud to bring home to mom.”
REBUS has been at PROJECT New York these past couple days and our setup is simple in that delicious sort of way. LAZY PANTS™ continues their torrid pace, with buyers and browsers alike highly enjoying the refreshingly urbane charm of the super-soft fleece lounge-pants.
Along with our forthcoming dissection of our time at PROJECT New York, we can then finally talk about yet another one of the questions now being asked by longtime fans and those newly discovering REBUS alike …
We saw you hungrily staring at our boy and Rebus model Pete Zylberberg last night at The Hoxton as he was sporting one of our signature Rebus Accessories pieces that will be available online later this month.
It’s OK. Nothing wrong with staring. It can be yours soon also.
Our love for denim is well-documented, and you are all feverishly asking for the most comfortable sweats north of 60 right now, the ever-delicious Lazy Pants™, but ….
Not only are we releasing an entire line of one-of-a-kind locally crafted necklaces and bracelets under our new Rebus Accessories brand, we are also in talks to partner with an amazing jewelry company from south of the border that makes breathtaking pieces that will complement your Rebus gear oh so well. These guys are gung-ho to come to Canada, and we can’t wait to unveil select pieces from their collection on RebusLIFE.com later this month.
The bling is on it’s way, kiddies. No need to fret.
Rebus Accessories are handcrafted by local artisans. Pictured is a signature piece that we call King Among Kings. You can steal some looks at other pieces that you will find in the small collection here. Rebus Accessories will range in price from $45 - $70 dollars, and will soon be joined on RebusLIFE.com by pieces from other brands. Stay tuned!
Ya, that’s right. The rumblings are true. We teamed up with JT Stevenson at ElectriCITY Events and renown West-end hipster haven Parts & Labour to bring you a unique denim-themed rock party tonight simply but aptly called DENIM. Throw in some raging music from The Disco Rebels and up and coming DJ Simon “The Jain” Jain, and you have a recipe for absolute mayhem.
We’re giving away a free pair of our premium denim to a lucky attendee who is judged to be clearly rocking out the hardest … and you will also have an opportunity to come chat with the Rebus team, have your picture taken, and take a look at some our prized Lazy Pants™ that are not available in stores yet but will be available for purchase online starting next month (just in time for the holidays).
Parts & Labour is at 1566 Queen Street West - get their early tonight and join the festivities with Rebus, ElectriCITY Events, The Disco Rebels, and The Jain!
While we were agonizing over perfecting our denim, we admit we had simultaneously been plotting and scheming about introducing a killer sweat pant that would be a game changer. We had anticipated strong sales of our LAZY PANTS™ upon its debut because of some key factors.
For one, a truly delicious pair of sweat pants that is high quality, durable, fashionable and incredibly comfortable is surprisingly hard to come by. Most retailers either skimp on the finer details and have something made of inferior quality in that wasteland of a manufacturing country that we won’t mention by name, or they …
No, that’s mostly it. And we decided we wouldn’t stand for it. In our neck of the woods, the sweat pant is a wardrobe staple, a must have in every person’s closet and in many cases, the gold standard of home and lounging comfort. You come home from work and just want to relax, or you’re running around at camp, or you’re just popping down the street for an ice cream … you know what you are most likely to put on. It is a clothing article to be celebrated and put on a pedestal. Some of our favorite moments happened when we were wearing sweat pants. We never forgot that.
We promise you - these are the most comfortable things you have ever had the privilege of slipping on. We made sure of it. How did we? We looked at the competition, had our manufacturers meticulously tear apart and dissect every similar product on the market, and came to the conclusion that the assembly of a quality sweat pant has unfortunately long become an afterthought, more often than not simply thought of as an add-on for any collection to claim itself as featuring an “athletic” offering.
But who are we kidding? Though ubiquitously known as sweat pants, most of us don’t really sweat in them. We relax.
We get lazy.
We rarely sweat.
Why not start telling the truth?
And thus, LAZY PANTS™ were born, and early reviews speak for themselves. We cannot seem to keep the damn things in stock - and they are not even available in retail stores yet, only through private fittings!
We couldn’t be prouder.
LAZY PANTS™ are now available in 4 basic colours for our Spring/Summer 2012 collection The Nest - Grey, Charcoal, Navy and Dark Teal - but you can expect some very bold and vibrant color offerings in the near future as per the requests of our fans. In our ad in the August issue of VICE magazine (see photo), the lovely Ilana Meyer is wearing them in Navy.
